Do Men Need Personal Stylists?

I look at three different ways to obtain style advice so you an up your style

One of my favourite movies is Crazy Stupid Love where Ryan Gosling takes Steve Carell under his wing to transform his style.

What’s great about this movie is the awe I felt for Ryan Gosling’s character, Jacob. Never have I wanted to be a movie character so much. This guy has it figured out. He oozes confidence. He’s got style nailed and he knows it – and he’s willing to teach Cal everything he knows, to get over his ex-wife so he has the confidence to attract women again.

Wouldn’t it be great to have someone by our side who isn’t afraid to tell us exactly what we look like, who we had the utmost respect for because they were obviously killing it?

Have you ever met someone who had such a profound impact on your life, so you ended up changing your lifestyle?

Me neither, but had I ever met such a character in real-life I would have embraced it.

Luckily for the average man, personal shoppers exist.

Whoa, aren’t they expensive?

Depends. Sure, there are high-end personal shoppers for the stars but there are affordable ways for you and me too, even free options.

I believe most men should work with someone to improve their style. Be it a personal shopper, Facebook Group or a blog like this.

Getting a second opinion from someone who has a little more knowledge in the field than you, is of huge value. It’s great to find someone you resonate with who you can look to emulating in style.

1. Professional Personal Shoppers / Stylists

It’s someone’s profession to make you look good. Their time and attention are dedicated to you. Personal shoppers will pick out outfits that are going to work for your style, environment and occasion. You’re their personal responsibility.
The highest price option on my list but the most personable one. If you’ve got the money, go for it!

2. Online stores that deliver and curate clothing

Ryan Gosling could exist at the end of your email. He could be picking out your clothes.

Well, we can dream, can’t we?

But, there are online stylists that can help you choose your office outfits, all within your budget.

Technology can scour the Internet for the right item of clothing that suits your fit and style. Then a real human, with years of experience in merchandising and men’s fashion, will have the final say and pack your order.

This all sounds fantastic, like a book club for looking good!

But how much do services like this cost?

Typically you set your own budget per item and pay a styling fee if you keep the order.

For example, one I recommend is Bombfell, they are specialists in men’s fashion and charge a $20 styling fee.

3. What are the free options?

Talk to your friends. Ask the best-dressed man in your network where he shops and what clothes he would recommend for you. If a guy dresses well, chances are he knows a few things about style and can help you out.

Visit some Facebook Groups. There are a ton of men’s fashion groups on Facebook all with a good amount of knowledgeable people in them, most willing to offer their advice.

YouTube – once again, YouTube is full of knowledgeable people, from different countries, cultures and age groups. I’m sure you can find a YouTuber who you can resonate with and aspire to be.

Pinterest – one of my favourites and probably how you got here. Keep pinning on Pinterest to get ideas of outfits you can put together from items in your wardrobe.
